New school’s great but kids need food
From the devastation of an earthquake, thanks to
a Global Grant, the children of the village of Patle
2, Nepal have a new school. Almost completed,
there is still a little way to go, with COVID-19
causing some delay.
But, children can’t learn properly if they are
hungry.
Global Grant partner, Madhyapur Rotary, has
stepped forward again, but your help is needed.
Dr Joanne Richardson, formerly of RC Stuart in Alice
Springs, now of Rotary 9510 online Australia is
closely involved in the area and is appealing for clubs
to assist in this urgent need. She writes:
“ Many families in the poorer districts of the Kathmandu
Valley are struggling to put food on the table during this
pandemic. The Rotary Club of Madhyapur has been
very proactive in providing food parcels to the needy. The
packages contain oil and rice, and will feed a family of four for
15-20 days. The cost is Rs4000 (AUD $50) each. This is
around six dollars a week per person for food.
For many years I have been running a volunteer dental project
in Nepal and have been to many meetings of the RC of
Madhyapur, especially once our RC of Stuart in Alice Springs
partnered with them to rebuild the school after the earthquake
using a Global Grant. They are a very active club and always
quick to respond to a need, but they urgently require more
funding for the food parcels.”
Every little helps! If your club can help feed the
poorer families of the Kathmandu Valley, please send
