More of Doing Good in the World
Rotary Club of REGENCY PARK
Activity Type: Health/Disease
Activity Description: Operating Theatre Light for Green Pastures Hospital
Activity Location: Pokhara, Nepal
The provision of the ceiling mounted Polaris 100/200 Operating
Theatre Light for Green Pastures Hospital, Pokhara, Nepal has
enhanced the capacity of this facility to provide care for those who
attend. Since 1957, this facility, run by International Nepal Fellowship,
has been providing care for those who are often marginalised and
stigmatised by the effects of Leprosy. Over the years its services have
expanded to include people experiencing spinal injuries, strokes and
cerebral palsy. Patients are cared for regardless of economic
circumstances. Orthopaedic surgical services have been a key aspect of
care for those experiencing the limb consequences of leprosy and in
more recent times the appointment of a Nepali Plastic Surgeon has
increased the capacity for care and the need to open a second operating
theatre. The provision of the light has enabled a more efficient and
greater capacity for surgical services to be provided.
The following statement sent from the team at Green Pastures on
3 December, 2019 summarises the appreciation for this light and the
role that Rotary has had in its provision.
“We are happy to share with you that we have got our new OT light
installed. We would like to thank you, the Rotary Club of Regency
Park and the Rotary International for making this happen.
We are also delighted to share that GPH had organized Hand
Surgery Week during 25th of Nov to 1st of Dec 2019 and the OT light
was used. 20 people (13 leprosy and 7 non-leprosy) got benefited
from the surgery week. Many thanks! once again!”
