Activity Description: Post Padding for School Goal Posts
Activity Location: Evanston Gardens Primary School
The Rotary Club of Gawler sought a District 9500 grant to support the
purchase of padding for the goal posts at Evanston Gardens Primary
School. This important addition to the goals will ensure student safety
is maintained. Also, Gawler Rotary would like to establish a connection
and presence at Evanston Gardens Primary School and seek future
ways of supporting within the School community (hands on work) and
this was a way to initiate a sustainable connection with the staff and
students.
Handover included Rotarians and Evanston Gardens Acting Principal,
teacher and students.
Local paper The Bunyip featured the story at the time of handover.
Rotary Club of ADELAIDE
Activity Type: General
Activity Description: Collection and shipment of second-hand winter clothing for children
Activity Location: Adelaide Australia and Leskovac Serbia.
Rotary of Adelaide Romani (ROAR) Project was established
in August 2019 aiming to collect winter clothes, underwear
and shoes for children in the Romani villages that gravitate to
Leskovac region in Serbia.
The project began in June 2019 with a committee of seven
people, three from the Romani community in Adelaide. The
Club created a Memorandum of Understanding with the
Protestant Evangelical Centre in Lescovac, with primary
contact Misha Bakic who acts as an administrator with the
Centre. The club also worked with Pastor Sarif Bakic, father
of Misha.
The collection of clothes took approximately four weeks.
Project members collected donations from Adelaide Rotary
Club during its Wednesday meetings and at other locations
on an ad hoc basis. The donations collected consisted of 250
kg of children’s winter clothes, shoes, toothbrushes plus
handmade trauma teddys; children’s warm underwear, caps,
scarves and socks and premature babies’ clothing which were
sent in late November, arrived in Serbia in early December
and were distributed to needy families after the Christmas
period. Some Club members put in a lot of time and effort.
