Magill Sunrise free BBQ raises money!
The local government authorities are currently redeveloping the Magill Village precinct at the upper end
of Magill Rd to make it a more attractive shopping destination.
RC Magill Sunrise, currently celebrating its 26th year and 1200th meeting, decided to offer a free BBQ to
local traders and shoppers to thank them for continuing to trade during the redevelopment. This was the
club’s first real opportunity to engage both with the local traders and the community – and its reception
amazed the club. It turned out to also be a chance for the community to show its support for Rotary.
Many were suspicious about a free BBQ, but,
delighted to learn that service clubs often do
things for their community without expecting
anything in return. Also, many were committed
to pay or make a donation to Rotary for the
club’s community support. The end result was
the club ‘sold’ 19kgs sausages and 11 loaves
of bread – and it collected $523.12 on a day
when everything was free!!!
The lead construction contractor, Camco,
provided tremendous assistance to the club
to organize this event, with support from both Campbelltown and Burnside councils.
Charter members at the 1200th meeting from left Pauline Hill,
Rita Stirling, Graham Holcroft and Kevin Webb.
President Lindsay Davis said the opportunity made the club
highly visible at Magill Village, and provided a chance for
members to meet with the Mayors of both Campbelltown
and Burnside and to chat to a number of traders.
