December 2022 DG Newsletter
Dear fellow Rotarians, partners and friends of Rotary,
There is a Japanese Proverb that I recall from my year as an Exchange student
v many years ago “The smallest good deed is better than the grandest good
intention”
As Kathryn and I continue to move throughout our District, we are ever amazed by the
myriad of activities undertaken by clubs – some large, some small. But collectively a difference
is made in the lives of so many. We need to celebrate these achievements and contributions –
share the stories.
Hopefully as part of our Rotary Volunteer Expo at the University of Adelaide on June 3 2023,
clubs will take up the opportunity of sharing their priority projects. With pride, we need to
look, learn and celebrate the efforts of members and the contributions that are made within
communities at home and abroad. But we also need to tell others outside of our wonderful
organisation about these projects.
In the near future our D9510 - 2022/2023 Conference Committee will seek expressions
of interest from clubs to nominate their respective
priority projects for inclusion in the University of
Adelaide Bonython Hall showcase. Please consider
taking up this opportunity and share your story!
When utilising the word celebrate, I recall my
school years, being prior to “Mr Google” when
I relied on the Encyclopedia Britannica and
would have read the definition as “to do something
special or enjoyable for an important event,
occasion or holiday”.
This past month Kathryn and I have very much enjoyed the
opportunity of sharing anniversary celebrations with a couple
of our clubs. The Rotary Club
of Waikerie celebrated their
60th anniversary on Saturday
November 12th and then on
Wednesday November 16th
the Rotary Club of Victor
Harbour celebrated the 75th
Anniversary of their Charter presentation.
At the same time, we have also shared with clubs the
celebration of the commitments and achievements of others.
