Rotary’s Centenary is a time of celebration. It is a time to reflect on our past, and take pride in all that has

End Trachoma 2020 project https://www.endtrachoma2020.org.au/
The first Rotary meeting in Australia was held on 21 April 1921 with Sir John Monash in the chair. This was
followed a few days later with the first meeting in Sydney.
Clubs all over Australia have been asked to consider celebrating the Centenary through a special meeting or
project and to use this to promote the work of Rotary in their local communities. So get your thinking caps
on and see what your club can do to mark this event.
Apart from club projects there are five nationwide or Zone wide projects as well. One of these has been
taking place in our district, End Trachoma 2020. This project is based in Alice Springs and is focused on
eliminating this eye disease amongst our Indigenous population. A number of clubs in the district have been
involved in raising funds for the project. Some of these that have had an ongoing interest over the years
include Alice Springs Mbantua, Salisbury and Whyalla. I am sure there are many more that have helped over
the years.
This project is about to achieve its goal which will be a great achievement to kick off the celebrations.
The other event that all clubs will have an opportunity to be part of is the baton relay which will visit every
club in the district. Because of the size of the district the baton is likely be carried by a specially branded ute
which will also raise funds for Polio Eradication. Details to follow.
