August 2022 DG Newsletter
Dear fellow Rotarians, partners and friends of Rotary,
Kathryn and I have been meeting many Rotary and Rotaract members,
and each of them contribute differently and collectively to Rotary.
We are all members of different clubs and therefore involved and contribute
differently to many varied projects.
BUT what we all have in common,
other than being valued members of Rotary
– we are volunteers.
Wikipedia describes that “Volunteering is the
practice of people working together on behalf
of others without being motivated by financial
or material gain”.
Over the many years involved with Rotary, we have had RI President Themes that promote
our contribution to community wealth throughout the world:
Service above self
Making a Difference
Rotary Serving Humanity
Make Dreams Real
Lend a Hand
Show Rotary Cares
Goodwill begins with you……..
In the early 1900’s Rotary was the “Captains of Industry and Business” and their respective networks were
utilised and combined to achieve the objectives of the day.
But in the twenty first century – we have changed and
devolved to be a group of peoples from many varied
backgrounds and life experiences.
Paul Harris wrote: “This is a changing world. We must be
prepared to change with it.
The story of Rotary will have to be written again and again.”
Rotary over the years has rewritten the story and we will continue to rewrite the story!
As we currently discuss the opportunity of the Regionalisation Pilot – we may commence the drafting
of a new chapter in that story of Rotary.
Rotary can now welcome a myriad of peoples – RI President Jennifer Jones is asking us to consider
and accept Diversity, Equity and Inclusion. She explains that this will hopefully assist us to attract
new membership and clubs – at the same time serving with an open heart and an open mind.
