ROTARY COORDINATORS’ TEAM
Article by ARC PDG Doug St Clair 2019-20 ZONE 8
Zone 8; Australia, New Zealand and
I was invited to speak at the Rotary Club of Brisbane Pacific Islands
International (RCBI) in November with the topic of the 9455, 9465, 9500, 9520, 9550, 9570, 9600,
Rotary Foundation and of particular interest to the club, an 9630, 9640, 9650, 9670, 9675, 9685, 9700,
update on the Polio Plus program and also Global Scholars. 9710, 9780, 9790, 9800, 9810, 9820, 9830,
Good topics for Foundation Month. 9910, 9920, 9930, 9940, 9970, 9980
It had been a while since I had visited the club which was chartered in RI DIRECTOR ZONE 7 AND 8
2017 during my term as District Governor as a unique club in several Rafael M. Garcia lll
ways and I thought it might be useful for others to revisit its Email: rafaeliiigarcia@yahoo.com
establishment.
First, it’s critical that in establishing any new club that there is a driver. ROTARY COORDINATOR
RCBI was lucky to have such a driver in then member of the Rotary Club PDG Adrian Roach
of Wishart, Jitendra Prasad (now IPDG Jitendra Prasad). Email: adrian@valleyfresh.net

Second, it was important for the club to have a supportive mentoring
club or clubs. The Rotary Club of Wishart did this admirably even PDG TIM MOORE
though they knew that they were going to lose one of their key members Email: tim@cinet.com.au
to the new club. Assistant Rotary Coordinators
Thirdly and probably most important for the sustainability of the club, supporting PDG Adrian Roach
they needed a common interest or vision. RCBI just happened to be, in PDG Stephen Lamont
the interim, almost unanimously Fijian Indians by origin with a common Districts: 9800, 9810, 9820, 9830
goal of wanting to assist their ‘home’ country and at the same time pay Email: stephenlamont9780@gmail.com
back their current country for the wonderful gift of opportunity that it PDG Peter Frueh
had provided them. Districts 9700, 9710, 9780, 9790
Since chartering, the club has gone from strength to strength, now with Email: peter.frueh@gmail.com
53 members including a new satellite club, supporting Fiji with a PDG Ingrid Waugh
wheelchair project, chartering a local Rotaract Club, feeding the Districts 9910 and 9930
homeless on a monthly basis, conducting an annual ‘huge’ Bollywood Email: ingrid_waugh@rotaryoceania.zone
Ball and expanding their membership to include others, not necessarily PDG Marion Johnston
Fijian Indians, who like the drive and activities of the club. Districts 9920 and 9980

Great to have had an opportunity to be involved with this ‘unique’ club PDG Karen Purdue
